Bridging Between Obstacles: Surviving the ABI Journey from Acute to Community Care
The journey of an ABI Survivor is not linear nor ‘one size fits all’. Obstacles that impede recovery are individualized, inescapable, immobilizing – they are barriers to navigating back to how we view ourselves and how others interact with and accept us. Life’s obstacles challenge us to be better versions of our self. Sustaining an ABI is one challenge I would not wish on anyone, but do share with so many. Access to mentalhealth services, collaborative rehabilitation, support and care, developing resistance tothe inhumanity of being a file number or condition – all are integral to building bridges that lead us back to participating in our lives and community.
