Helping the Helper: Practical Tools for Supporting Women Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence Related Brain Injury

Every year thousands of women experience intimate partner violence (IPV), receiving injuries to the face, head, and neck, a pattern of violence causing brain injuries in many survivors. In an effort to raise awareness and provide some education and resources to help the frontline address this gap, we developed the Abused & Brain Injured Toolkit. This workshop will give some key information about brain injury in women survivors and introduce you to the toolkit. Discussion will include IPV-BI basics like how they happen, what it looks like, screening and identification, and unique challenges experienced by women exposed to IPV-BI. Special focus on practical tools, existing resources, opportunities to engage in community capacity building through cross-pollination, and how to use the toolkit will also be included.
